Allianz Cumann na mBunscoil Jubilee Perpetual Cup ‘A’ Championship

Bunscoil Phobal Feirste Girls lift the Allianz Cumann na mBunscoil Jubilee Perpetual Cup ‘A’ Indoor football title.

2018 will sign off as a spectacular year of GAA success at Bunscoil Phobal Feirste. It was a year of unprecedented success across all codes for the School and the icing was put on the cake as the girls footballers lifted the Allianz Cumann na mBunscoil A football title defeating a host of schools along the way. The Gaeilgeoirí from Bóthar Seoighe had to qualify for the finals from the proverbial ‘group of death’ which included the Division 1 League Champions in St John the Baptist, the Division 1 league finalists of Holy Trinity and the Division 2 league finalists in Holy Child. A day of titanic qualifying group battles ensued at the St Johns indoor arena with the minimum separating all teams in all games! It looked like a showdown between Bunscoil Phobal Feirste and the defending county champions and Ulster finalists St John the Baptist was on the cards as both teams won their opening couple of games. This proved to be the case and another epic Bunscoil Phobal Feirste v St John the Baptist final game took place! Both schools have been battling it out in a series of ‘Andytown Derbies’ in recent football finals, with the boy’s teams facing off in last year’s City and County finals with Bunscoil Phobal Feirste beating the Finaghy Road School last year in both finals by the minimum score as they made their way to Ulster Glory, lifting the Nicholas Baxter Ulster A championship for the first time in Antrim GAA history. A testament to the work being put in by Staff at both schools. However Friday finals day was all about the girls and having battled their way out of the previous weeks nightmare qualifying group where they dethroned City, County champs and Ulster finalists St John the Baptist, the Bunscoil Girls knew they had given themselves a fantastic opportunity of creating another little bit of history for their School as they made their way to Corrigan Park. This time the girls played open and attacking football winning all their games against St Oliver Plunkett, Gaelscoil na bhFál and Christ the Redeemer in some style to lift the A football title. There was great play in goals from Naomh Pól player Saerlaith Burke with some spectacular saves throughout the day as well as brilliant distribution from defence by Creggan Kickhams Catherine Mc Kay. The hard working midfield pairing of St Galls Ciara Murray and Naomh Pól’s Nicole ‘the goal’ Munce kept the engine room firing on all cylinders as O Donovan Rosa forward Éabha Rea kept the score board ticking over with a flurry of well taken scores from the Rosa ciotóg. Excellent energy from the impact subs of Caoimhe Murray (Naomh Pól) Aoibhinn Ní Dhuifinn (Naomh Pól) and Lámh Dhearg’s Aoife Fitzsimmons ensured the energy levels never dropped and that the pressure game was relentless throughout the day. A real full team effort by the Girls from Gaeltacht Bhóthar Seoighe. Comhghairdeas.
