Bunaíodh Bunscoil Phobal Feirste in 1971 ag grúpa ceannródaithe a chreid go raibh sé de cheart ag paistí s’acu Gael oideachas agus eispéaras cultúrtha Gaelach a fháil. Bhunaigh siad Gaeltacht uirbeach agus scoil Ghaelach do pháistí s’acu. Cheannaigh tuismitheoirí eile isteach san fhís láidir seo agus ó shin ar aghaidh tá na mílte tuismitheoirí agus a bpáistí mar chuid de stair agus d’fhís Bhunscoil Phobal Feirste agus fís an Ghael oideachais. Ó thús saolré na scoile seo in 1971, bhí ról lárnach ag na tuismitheoirí ag brú agus ag tógáil ar obair iontach na múinteoirí agus na n-oibrithe sna seomraí ranga chun an t-eispéaras tús-saol is fearr a thabhairt dá bpáistí.
Le linn crua-bhlianta na 70í agus na luath 80í sular tugadh aitheantas stáit dúinn, d’obair tuismitheoirí, i bpáirtnéireacht leis na múinteoirí, ag cothú agus ag fás na scoile ón síol bheag sin le 9 dalta go dtí an scoil atá inti inniu le níos mó na 400. D’eagraigh tuismitheoirí bailiúcháin taobh amuigh d’ionaid siopadóireachta agus séipéal. D’eagraigh siad cluichí Gaelacha, Ceolchoirmeacha, turais, chun pobal na scoile agus cúpla punt a tharraingt le chéile. Thiomáin siad busanna, tacsaithe agus thug siad síobanna dár bpáistí chun cinntiú go raibh eispéaras iontach acu agus iad i mBunscoil Phobal Feirste. Tá ról lárnach ag ár gcoiste tuismitheoirí, ag obair i bpáirtnéireacht le múinteoirí na scoile, Jenny, Dolores, Áine & Seán go háirithe chun an oíche iontach seo a tharraingt le chéile. Chuir agus cuireann tuismitheoirí muinín ionainn mar Ghaelscoil agus mar scoth ionaid oideachais agus cultúrtha. Táimid iontach buíoch dár dtuismitheoirí ón chéad lá go dtí an lá inniu!
Bunscoil Phobal Feirste was established in 1971 by a group of visionary parents who believed that their children had the right to an education and life through their native tongue and culture. They established an urban Gaeltacht here on Shaw’s Road and the North’s first ever Gaelscoil to enable their children realise that vision. Not long after and since then, many other parents began to buy into this powerful vision, the vision of Bunscoil Phobal Feirste and the vision of Irish Medium Education. From the birth of this school, until today, parents have been at the forefront of its development and support, working in tandem with dedicated groups of staff to ensure the best start in life for their children.
During the tough years of the70s and early 80s, before the school was recognised by the state, the parents working in partnership with the teachers and staff, nurtured and grew the school from its tiny seed with 9 children into the mighty oak of over 400 pupils today. Parents organised collections outside Chapels and Shopping Centres. They organised Sporting events, concerts, trips in order to bring the school community together and to raise much needed funds in the process. Parents have and continue to show great confidence in us as a school and as an establishment of quality education and cultural development. We greatly appreciate our parents support from the very beginning right up until today!
