Homework reinforces classroom learning and will encompass a whole variety of activities. It will be appropriate for the age of your child. Homework will help you to be aware of the nature of the work being done in school and will provide you with the opportunity to support your child’s learning.
Homework should be enjoyable, and reading with your child will be very central to this. Visits to the library should also foster a love of reading. From Primary 3 your child will begin to read in English and in the early stages, your support with our Reading Scheme ‘Rigby Star’ will help your child transfer his/her reading skills to English.
Reading partnerships are of paramount importance in our school and our classroom assistants have been involved in training by the BELB to promote reading. Reading will help your child in every area of the curriculum as well as stimulating his/her imagination and his ability to write creatively.
We promote the use of a wide range of genres; novels, informational books, comic, joke books, encyclopaedias, suitable internet-based texts, poetry anthologies, information leaflets, timetables, newspapers and many more.
